Custody...

When a couple that has adopted a pet together breaks up, who gets custody of the pet?

I ask, because I am in this situation.  I don’t know how much of a claim I have on our pet anymore, as since we have moved out of the apartment, the dog has lived with him (this has been about a year now - although we moved out of the apartment and into separate living situations, we were still in the relationship.  I was unable to have the dog with me, so he took the dog).  

What are the rules on this?  

I don’t know about visitation - things might get ugly.  They are ok for now, but he is pushing it a little.

Anyway… yet another post-break-up-thought.

Thank the powers that be we did not have children together.
